Congress is hosting Pre-Event for Parliament of the World's Religions in Kisumu (Kenya) East Africa

Even before being awarded a stipend from the corporate offices of the Council for A Parliament of World Religions to host a pre-parliament event in Kenya, the officers and members of AAWLC E. Africa Congress began work seeking out  indeginous and traditional religious leaders,  corporate, social, civic (government) and organizational leaders and the media to be the organizers in East Africa for such an event.  Now with notice that the stipend is on the way, they are proceeding ahead with plans for meetings to discuss the overall program for the pre-parliament event which will take place in Kisumu late this summer.  The Kisumu pre-Parliamentary Event is signaling the 2009 Parliament of the World's Religions taking place in Australia in December.

For more information regarding the Kisumu events, the planning now taking place in Kenya, how you can participate and/or offer assistance and resources, contact Executive Director Amolo directly by clicking on her name preceded here.

The video below will give you some details on the history of the Parliament and its significance.

8 March 2009 International Women's Day

President Mariam Atieno Alieva joined members of another women's organization to visit women inmates.  She states:

I marked the day by joining  women inmates in  a Kisumu prison  where we gave gifts to the inmates and really danced with them.  Our area member of parliament joined us and delivered a speech to them where he made them aware of some of their rights.

This type of activity is one that members of AAWLC can find honor.  Dancing is important as it is an element of joy and for Mariam and others to be part of bringing this element into the inmates situation must make the apostles of old smile.  Though many in prison are guilty ~ some that may be innocent must suffer along with the guilty.  This scenario can be true of life:  we can find ourselves entangled in situations that looked innocent enough but turned into challenges we could not handle.  May we always remember that compassion is what will win the final challenge.

"Healthy Girls" Seminar (PHOTOS ARE HERE!)

Members have agreed to raise funds to distribute to girls 20 in a school in the outskirts of Kisumu town which include the following items:

Toothbrushes, Pencils/Pens, Sanitary towels, Used clothes.

Rationale:  There is need to maintain the girl child in school by giving them relevant information to help them develop disciplined habits and lead a disciplined life. It is imperative that peace from without can only be achieved by first attaining peace from within oneself. We are initially reaching 20 girls but hope to reach 10,000 plus subject to availability of funds. The said girls will also act as peer counselors in their school and community at large with one reaching at least 5 girls.

Venue:  Alendu Mixed Secondary School,

Commitment
E.D. Amolo announces updates:

We are networking with several NGO's CBO's and individuals in Kisumu through an Organization called Girl Child Network and we (AAWLC) form the Western Chapter. They assist in building capacity of members in various areas of child development such as paralegal, child development policy, Resource Mobilization, Human rights, just to mention a few. We had a priviledge of hosting a children's conference in Kisumu at Milimani Resource during the month of August (2009) and AAWLC's role was to take of the children during the three day conference.   I was priviledged to be the one.  The children were drawn from Kuria, Kakamega, Siaya, Bondo and Kisumu Districts
